This is an interview with the Rev Richard Coles. Unfortunately there was no opportunity to answer listeners comments. It was broadcast on 28 February 2009.
Of course the idea that people should not have cryonics in favour of giving their money to a cause the questioner considers more appropriate has many answers. The obvious is that is is for the same reason that the questioner does not take his own life and bequeath his assets to these "more deserving" people right away. Or the questioner could consider whether if he was offered an experimental life saving operation or course of treatment, whether he would reject it in favour of someone else. But the same point must be considered by the "someone else" ad infinitum. I wonder how many people would attach their contact details to a suggestion that those who are seeking expensive cancer treatment on the NHS should stand down and just die so that the money could go to someone else. I guess that not many would even make such a suggestion, even though it is public funds being discussed. In the case of cryonics, no public money is involved - people pay for it themselves.
